Healthy Aging Class

Tuesdays, 11 AM - 12 PM
Thursdays, 12 PM - 1 PM

The Healthy Aging exercise class is 60 minutes of foundational movements specifically tailored to target deficits people may experience while aging. The focus of this exercise class is to overcome the physical and mental challenges aging can cause, and to restore functions so day-to-day tasks become easier which will improve the quality of life of not only those taking the class but the people in their life as well.


These deficits include, but are not limited to.

  • Rigidity - muscle stiffness and resistance to movement
  • Hand Dexterity - problems with handwriting and fine motor tasks
  • Akinesia and Bradykinesia - an inability to move spontaneously or slow movements
  • Postural Stability - impaired posture and coordination
  • Balance – problems with falls or stability
  • Cognition – problems with the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. The ability to multitask.
  • Gait – problems with shuffling and range of motion

Core, Balance and Restore 
Sundays, 10 - 11 AM

This is a total body conditioning, core and yoga fusion class. This class includes a warm-up, core stability exercises, total body strength, balance work and stretching. We use our body weight, fit balls, bands, light dumbbells and other exercise equipment to increase muscular strength and endurance, range of motion, flexibility, and balance. This class will be motivational, fun and increase your ability to perform routine and outdoor Colorado activities like walking in the park hiking, biking and skiing or playing with the grandkids!!


Yoga Flow

A slower moving vinyasa yoga practice with mat and standing postures to improve overall strength, mind body connections and coordination, flexibility and balance. Yoga flow will give practitioners the opportunity to connect the slower, creative asana sequencing with the classic chaturanga dandasana to upward and downward-facing dog (option to skip at anytime).

Benefits of this slower moving vinyasa practice includes attention to cueing, alignment and more mindful transitions.


Tai Chi (Taiji)
Thursdays, 4:30 - 5:30 PM

This class is designed to be accessible to everyone. We'll focus on:
- Building a solid foundation through warm-ups and fundamental exercises (20-30 minutes)
- Learning the graceful Laojia sequence (30-40 minutes)

- Improve mobility
- Improve strength and flexibility
- Pain relief and improve bone health
- Moves can be adapted to fit each individual as needed

Taiji is a journey, not a race. You'll learn at your own pace, and repeated practice of the Laojia YiLu form will reinforce your progress. The instructor is always available to answer your questions and provide guidance. First class is free to new attendees; $7/session after. Discover the benefits of Taiji for yourself!


Total Body Conditioning 

Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8:30 - 9:30 AM

This full body workout targets all major muscle groups, and is designed to help increase strength, as well as improve overall conditioning, flexibility, and balance. The format will change slightly each session but cardio, strength training, and stretching will always be part of the workout. The class will include floor work (participants are encouraged to bring their own mat).
$6.00/class with the punch card.  Punch cards will be for 10 punches (with a free class after they've completed all 10).  For drop in participants it will be $7.00/class. 



Growing Stronger 
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9:30 - 10:30 AM

This light-to-moderate intensity class focuses on strength, range of motion, coordination, balance, and flexibility. The class is designed for people new to strengthening movements, as well as individuals who want a less-intense fitness class. Hand weights, resistance tubes, and resistance balls are used in the class. Modifications of the exercises can be provided to help accommodate various physical limitations.

Mind & Body
Mondays, 10:30 - 11:30 AM

Mind & Body (trial class) is a 45-minute workout that combines Yoga, Pilates, and Barre. It's designed to improve flexibility, core strength, and balance, and to promote mental and physical well-being. Chair format will be instructed as well.

Water Aerobics

Water aerobics is fun water exercise that is good for balance and strength training along with a cardio workout.



Aqua Fitness

STRENGTH PLUS

Join this 40 minute full-body strength-based class on Zoom from the comfort of your home. You will learn proper form for safe and effective strength training and everyday functional movements. Each class is different and includes strength, core training, and balance exercises. The class is inclusive and will challenge beginners to advanced exercisers. Equipment for Class
Choose a single location in your home with close access to a doorjamb to anchor the resistance bands, have access to a chair and a wall or kitchen counter for push-ups. You only need a small space for the class.

  • Sturdy chair (preferably without arms)
  • Wall, kitchen counter, chair or floor for push-ups
  • 2 Heavier Dumbbells (7-15 lbs.)
  • Resistance bands with handles/ankle strap with a doorjamb anchor (you will be positioned outside of the door - i.e, hallway outside of a bedroom door). For safety, please ensure that you are outside the door that closes, so the door can’t open and the bands can’t come loose.
  • 2 Lighter Dumbbells (1-5 lbs. max) Canned goods, water bottles or light weight dumbbells (2.5 lb. Gatorade bottles, 1 lb cans are suitable)
  • 2 Paper plates to slide under feet (cheap paper plates with smooth bottoms are great)

COLIN GATES

Colorado born Colin Gates is a 2014 Honors Graduate from The National Personal Training Institute. Colin holds certifications from The National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Certified Personal Trainer, Weight Loss Specialist, Behavior Change Specialist and Group Personal Training Specialist as well as current CPR/AED certification from The American Heart Association. In February 2018 Colin was invited by the founder of The GZS Parkinson’s Network to become the lead instructor and promoted to Senior Director in 2019 where he held the title until the foundation dissolved in April of 2021. Beginning in September 2018 Colin has instructed a group exercise class at Aspen Lodge as well as worked one-on-one with many members of the community either at Aspen Lodge or in their own personal homes. Colin is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from Metro State University of Denver. When he is not studying or training clients Colin is a passionate fan of soccer where he coaches his three kids, as well as enjoying all things sports.
